Have you ever had to deal with the stress and frustration of not being on the same page with the important people in your life? If the answer is yes, you probably appreciate that how you resolve – or don’t resolve – your differences matters.

Hi, I’m Erik Feig, Founder of Feig Mediation Group, a parent, family, and business mediation firm located in Bethesda, Maryland. I want to spend the next couple of minutes talking with you about what this channel is about and how it could be a resource to help you make important conversations less stressful.

Fact is, if you were to fast forward five years you’re just as likely, if not more likely, to remember how it felt to go through whatever issues you’re stuck on now than what the details of your disagreement was about. For instance, whether you’re able to cooperate with each other, address the issues that were important to you? Did you feel like you were heard? That your ideas – your point of view – was respected? Or was the process frustrating, an argument – a battle even – to see who wins and who has to go along.

All of this is important.

The ways that you engage when you disagree can impact not only the decisions you make, but also your ability to come together with the people who are important to you when the stakes are high.

That’s why I created my practice, and now this YouTube channel. I’m a mediator. That means that I help parents, families, and businesses communicate with each other when important issues are at stake so that they can work through their differences in more constructive ways.

It’s about helping people to hear each other, and be heard by each other, so that they can problem solve together when they get stuck or when it feels like there’s so much that they need to talk about it feels overwhelming or even hard to know where or how to begin.

So this channel will be a place for sharing information and communication skills drawn from my mediation practice and my, my experience as an attorney for more than 25 years. In other words real issues, real strategies, that can be helpful to you and that you can put into practice right away. We’ll also be responding to questions and offering tips about ways to have less stressful conversations about situations that can be difficult to address.

So give us a follow, subscribe to our YouTube channel, or just check in from time to time for updates and new videos. I’m looking forward to seeing you here.
